Privacy Policy
Effective October 12, 2026
Who we are
Union (we, us) is a professional introduction service headquartered in San Francisco, California. We connect people and firms who may benefit from knowing each other. This policy describes how we handle personal information across our websites (including unionagency.co and unionmatching.com), our communications with you, and our services.
Information we collect
Contact and professional information: name, email address, phone number, company, role, and professional background. We collect this when you provide it to us, and from publicly available and licensed business databases.
Communications: emails, text messages, and calls with us. Calls may be recorded or transcribed for quality and to capture what you asked us to find; where the law requires, you will be notified before recording begins.
Preferences and needs: what you tell us you are looking for, so we can propose relevant introductions.
Usage data: standard technical information (browser type, pages visited, approximate location from IP address) when you use our websites.
How we use it
We use personal information to operate the introduction service: to understand what you are looking for, to identify people whose needs may be a fit for yours, to propose and arrange introductions, to communicate with you, and to improve our service. We also use it to comply with legal obligations and to protect against fraud and abuse.
We use software, including artificial intelligence systems, to help draft communications and evaluate potential matches. A human team oversees the service.
When we share it
Introductions: the core of our service is making introductions. When we propose one, we share relevant professional context about each party with the other. We do not make an introduction without consent from both sides.
Service providers: vendors that help us run the service (hosting, email delivery, transcription, analytics) process data on our behalf under contractual confidentiality obligations.
Legal: we may disclose information when required by law or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
We do not sell personal information.
Google user data
Signing in with Google: we receive your name, email address, and profile picture to create and secure your account.
Connecting your Google contacts (optional, only if you choose to): we read your contacts and the people you have emailed with (your Google "Other contacts"), including names, email addresses, phone numbers, company, and title. We use them only to show you, privately, which people you already know are in Union and which introductions can come through someone you know. Nobody else sees your contacts.
Connecting your Google Calendar (optional, only if you choose to): we read the events on your own calendar from the past year and the next two months, and from each one only who was invited, whether they and you accepted, when it is, and whether it marks you as busy. Google never sends us titles, descriptions, locations, links, or notes, so we never have them. For each person you meet with we keep only how many meetings you have had and when you last met; large meetings and declined ones are not counted. We use this only to show you, privately, who you are closest to among the people in Union, and to offer you call times that fit your calendar; your busy times are read when we offer times and are not stored. We never add, change, or delete anything on your calendar.
Connecting your Gmail (optional, only if you choose to): we read only the headers of your messages (who each message is from and to, who is copied, and when it was sent) and Gmail's labels, never the subject, the text, or attachments. We read the conversations you took part in over the last year and keep, for each person you write to, only how many messages you have exchanged and when you last emailed. Everything else is discarded as it is read. Mailing lists, automated senders and your own addresses are skipped. We use these counts only to show you, privately, who you are closest to among the people in Union. We never read the content of your email, never send email from your account, and never change anything in your mailbox.
If another member who knows you asks for an introduction to someone in your contacts, we may ask you privately whether you would make or allow it. We never reveal your contacts to them, and we name you only if you agree.
We never contact anyone in your contacts unless you pick that person and ask us to write to them, and then our note says you suggested it. When you pick someone, we may look up public professional information about them so the note is relevant.
We do not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or share it except with service providers that help us run these features. Union's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
You can disconnect at any time from Settings. Disconnecting your contacts, calendar, or Gmail revokes all of our access at Google and deletes from Union what we read from it (your imported contacts, the meeting counts from your calendar, or the counts from your Gmail). Anything else you had connected stops updating, and you can delete it the same way.
Slack
Installing Union for Slack: an owner of a Union team adds Union to a Slack workspace. Members can then message Union directly or mention it in channels it was added to, and Union helps them find and arrange introductions through its network. Union may also message members of the workspace, starting with the person who installed it.
The member list: we import each workspace member's name, title, and email address from their Slack profile, so Union knows who it is talking to. These people are kept on a private list for that workspace only. They are not part of Union's network, are not visible outside the workspace, and are not looked up with any third party.
Members who talk to Union: when a member sends Union a direct message or mentions it, they join Union's network like anyone who contacts us, what they ask for is used to find introductions for them, and their professional profile may be completed from business data providers.
Messages and files: we store direct messages with Union, and messages in channels Union was added to, as the context of that conversation. Messages from a member who has not talked to Union stay in that history, but are not used to work out what that member needs and do not make them part of Union's network. Files shared with Union are copied to our storage. When a message is edited or deleted in Slack, we apply the change to our copy. Union cannot read messages in channels it was not added to.
Processing: AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic (through Amazon Web Services Bedrock) process messages to write Union's replies. Workspace access tokens are encrypted at rest. We do not sell Slack data or use it for advertising.
When Union is uninstalled from the workspace, its token is revoked, or a team owner disconnects Slack in Union, we delete the workspace's Slack data: the access token, the conversations and files, and the people we know only through that workspace. People who also know Union another way keep their Union record without the tie to the workspace. Internal logs of model requests, kept for debugging and cost accounting, can contain message text; they are not removed automatically and are deleted on request. See Support.
